BRANDON

Brandon

Occupation: Bass Guitarist, Horn Player, Local Giant

Mr. Lyall is the newest addition to the Minnesota Sex Junkies' lineup and our very own lead bassist. When he isn't completing his weekly string change, he likes to unwind outside with a nice stogie while the tinnitus reminds him to buy ear protection.

Q&A

Q: How long have you been playing music?

A: I'm godawful at math, but since around the sixth grade? However many years that is,

I guess. I joined the school band as a trumpet player around then, and that was my

first serious attempt to learn something.

Q: Why did you start playing music?

A: My dad used to tell me stories about how he played trumpet in his middle school

band a county over, and in ways, I was trying to be like him. I kept playing because

I found out that I was actually good at something.

Q: Why did you choose the instrument you play?

A: Paul McCartney's melodicism is what drew me to the bass. John Entwistle's blistering

speed is what kept me there.

Q: Who are your top ten musical acts and/or artists?

1: The Who

2: The Beatles

3: Rush

4: Primus

5: Ben Folds

6: Aimee Mann

7: R.E.M.

8: Genesis

9: Umphrey's McGee

10: The Allman Brothers Band

Q: If you could be or could have been another musician, who would you be?

A: John Entwistle, either for the massive bass collection or the raw skill he had. Plus,

he got to see the hell that was Woodstock '69 AND '99!

Q: What is your favorite song?

A: Baba O'Riley - The Who

Q: If you weren't with MSJ, what would you be doing?

A: I'd probably keep sitting at home playing to an audience of an LCD computer screen,

a lamp and the six spiders a year we (supposedly) eat in our sleep, waiting for the

shouts and applause that never come. If they do come, it's over. The spiders have gained

sentience and will soon take over the world.

Q: What is your favorite part of being in MSJ?

A: They were the only band willing to hire me.

Q: What is your LEAST favorite part of being in MSJ?

A: They were the only band willing to hire me.

Q: What is your favorite quote?

A: "Too weird to live, and too rare to die." --Hunter S. Thompson

Q: Are you actually from Minnesota?

A: No, but I think the other guys are.
